Main Objectives
This project aims to empower journalists with AI skills essential for better reporting, especially during elections period, enhancing their knowledge and AI literacy so that they can:
- report in a more accurate way, especially political reporting, particularly in times of elections
- combat disinformation more effectively
- know the ethical implications of AI in journalism
- understand challenges and opportunities of AI for journalism
Specific Objectives and Key Milestones
Organize the two panels featuring experts discussing AI's impact on political journalism, combating disinformation in elections and ethical guidelines for AI use in reporting, and the series of seven online workshops led by experts, focusing on best practices in AI-assisted journalism, ethical boundaries, handling large datasets with AI tools, reflection on the use of AI in the political journalism sphere, and using AI tools to content distribution (Milestone – Jan. 2025).
Deploy the two panels featuring experts on AI and Journalism (Milestone – March 2025).
Implement the online workshops involving Portuguese journalists, focusing on decentralization, aiming towards national, regional and local journalists (Milestone – Jun. 2025).
Organize a workshop assessment strategy (Milestone – Jul. 2025).
Create a sustainability plan relying on the replication of the workshop series after improvement according to the assessment results (Milestone – Sep. 2025).
By achieving these objectives, the projects aim to equip journalists with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in the AI era while upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity.
